Acupuncture and IVF/IUI
Whether trying to conceive naturally or with the help of IVF and other reproductive technologies, studies show acupuncture will increase your chances of success.
For thousands of years practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine have assisted in the reproductive process. Acupuncture boosts fertility and can create a healthy body for conception, pregnancy, childbirth, and post-natal health.
How acupuncture helps:
Improves blood circulation in the uterus and reproductive organs, promoting healthy uterine lining and eggs.
Regulates the nervous system, decreasing stress hormones that may impair fertility health.
Affects the regulating hormones in the body. Pituitary and ovarian hormonal health is essential for natural conception.
Stimulates the production of neurotransmitters, boosting the body's natural healing capacity. Healthy pregnancies begin with healthy bodies.
For some, the process of conceiving and birthing can be difficult and frustrating. Acupuncture and natural medicine can make this process easier, more fruitful, and will inhance your overall health and well being in the process. The joy of a new baby will be a great blessing on you and your families' life.
Acupuncture and natural medicine can also enhance the success rate of fertility interventions like IVF (in-vetro fertilization) and ICSI (intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection).
A study published in the journal, Fertility and Sterility, in 2002, showed a 40% increase in IVF success rates. In the study, 160 women underwent routine IVF. Half of the women were given acupuncture before and after the embryo transfer. This group had a pregnancy rate about 40% higher than the group that did not have acupuncture.
A German study in 2002: Of 80 women who underwent IVF with acupuncture, 34 women got pregnant, a success rate of 42.5%. Of those who received IVF without acupuncture, 21 women got pregnant, a success rate of 26.3%.
In an American study, 51% of the women who had acupuncture and IVF treatments became pregnant. The success rate for IVF alone was 36%.
Chinese herbs have been prescribed for infertility for 2000 years. While the principle mechanism of action is not always understood, Chinese herbology produces real changes in health and physiology. Treating infertility with herbs is a process of balancing out the entire body leading to greater health on many levels.
If herbs are part of your fertility treatment I will work with your doctor to ensure there are no unwanted drug/herbal interactions.
Acupuncture can safely be used throughout pregnancy as well and it can be particularly helpful if a woman has a history of miscarriage or finds pregnancy difficult. Acupuncture can be useful for morning sickness, aches and pains or anxiety and depression in pregnancy, breech positioned fetus, delayed labor and more. Many of Kat's fertility patients continue to work with her beyond conception in order to have healthier pregnancies, easier labors, and full term healthy babies.
